SILVERSTONE 2024 F1 PREVIEW

We are back at the home of Formula One in 2024. The world famous British Grand Prix, held at the Silverstone race track. Silverstone is one of the most exciting tracks on the F1 calendar, with multiple high speed corners, challenging the drivers, as well as plenty of overtaking opportunities.

The Favourites: Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes

After the incredible antics of last weekend, Silverstone is set up to be an absolute belter. In case you have somehow missed it, Verstappen and Norris collided whilst battling for the win, causing both to miss out on the chance of a victory. Verstappen still managed to finish fifth, despite a rear left puncture caused by the collision, whereas Norris was forced to retire due to the damage his rear right puncture had caused. George Russell was running in third when the crash occurred, and was therefore able to swoop in and record his second every victory in Formula One.

The same three teams will be the favourites this weekend, with Red Bull and McLaren’s cars suiting the characteristics of Silverstone and Mercedes now just a step back from the front two teams. Despite their strong start, Ferrari have now dropped to the fourth quickest team, incapable of qualifying higher than the other three teams. Their huge upgrade package has brought back the “bouncing” problem they once had, meaning they have to currently run the car at a higher ride height (until they fix the problem), leading to a loss in performance.

Lando Norris will be looking to bounce back from last weekend by winning his home grand prix. The Brit is ‘ready to race’ Verstappen again, after the two have had a chat earlier this week, sweeping away their coming together.

The Mercedes pair of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton will also be striving for home glory this weekend. Both drivers will want to make it back-to-back wins for the German outfit for the first time since 2021. Hamilton himself also hasn’t tasted victory since 2021, looking to make it 104 wins this weekend. This will be Hamilton’s last dance with Mercedes at Silverstone, before making the move to Ferrari next year, so he will be hoping to make it a special one.
